Hawke’s Bay: Vineyard venue
Fancy your Hawke’s Bay wedding on the grounds of a working vineyard?
Moana Park in Puketapu, just five minutes over the hill from Taradale, is a really delightful rural vineyard where this dream can be a reality. Guests pass through a pergola between the shady oak trees to a wide lawn fronting the vines running away to distant hills. Plenty of space for marquees, mingling, music and magic. There is also a large fire pit to sit around, that’s real outdoors atmosphere as the light goes down and night comes on.
This is a unique space, and you are invited to use this backdrop to design your own event. Paint a sunny picnic, community festival, or afternoon wedding onto this canvas and create something really special. Venue hire is for the space only, check our recommended suppliers or bring in your choice of marquees and equipment, caterers plain or fancy, classical music or rock band, lights and accessories – have a ball making the space your own.
If it rains (unlikely as we have the lowest rainfall in the North Island) the on-site Plan B is a smart covered area in the vineyard barn, an equally rustic photogenic space.
Red and white wines for the event must be supplied by the winery, do come in for a tasting to ensure you find exactly the right wines for your party. Choose from the easy-drinking fruity styles of the Crush Pad range, to the seriously good Estate Series which show off Hawke’s Bay and the super premium Single Vineyard Reserve range – elegant and sophisticated in style.
For a smaller event at the winery, see Moana Park Cellar Door.

Napier City

Beautifully preserved 1930s architecture is Napier’s special point of difference.
A national disaster resulted in Napier becoming one of the purest Art Deco cities in the world. On the morning of February 3rd 1931 a massive earthquake – 7.9 on the Richter scale – rocked Hawke’s Bay for more than three minutes. Nearly 260 lives were lost and the vast majority of buildings in the commercial centre of Napier were destroyed, either by the quake itself or the fires that followed.
Rebuilding began almost immediately, and much of it was completed in two years. New buildings reflected the architectural styles of the times – Stripped Classical, Spanish Mission and Art Deco. Local architect Louis Hay, an admirer of the great Frank Lloyd Wright, had his chance to shine. Maori motifs were employed to give the city a unique New Zealand character – for example, the ASB bank on the corner of Hastings and Emerson Streets features Maori koru and zigzags.
Napier is one of Hawke’s Bay’s “twin cities” and has a great range of accommodation and activities.
