You put the music on long before the guests arrive, right?
And pour the first wine and sample the olives. But for sure the music goes on first, to get you in the mood, start your feet tapping, curl that smile so they’re coming down the driveway and the party’s on.
For a kiwi summer, kiwi music just seems right. It fits. It dances barefoot across the deck and we like it like that.
I asked National Radio’s Nick Bollinger to recommend a soundtrack for a summer party – kiwi sounds that skip out of your open windows while you’re opening the wine, music makes your place a happy space.
These will be my staples this summer. Nick says he said he deliberately chose things that weren’t over-familiar, but they are all bright sunny songs that to suit the occasion. With a few old classics buried in there.
Here they are, Nick Bollinger’s top tracks for a kiwi summer party:
Aarhadna – Drunken Heart, Smokey Mind
Eva Prowse – The Wannabe
Dave Dobbyn – Tell The World
Lawrence Arabia – Another Century
Bari & The Breakaways – Sea Cruise
The Phoenix Foundation – Bleaching Sun
Katchafire – Giddy Up
The Clean – Tally Ho
Bic Runga – Close Your Eyes
Unity Pacific – Rock Away
Don McGlashan – Lucky Stars
A wee taster below to whet your appetite. Happy summer!
