Hastings, cafe venue
Hawke’s Bay’s iconic Opera Kitchen is in a modern restoration of one of Hastings’ historic treasures, the Municipal Power House building from 1912. It is one of the few major remaining architectural structures that predate the 1931 earthquake.
A popular cafe during the day, in the evenings this space is available to rent for private hire: a terrific venue for a presentation, meeting or party.
This is a flexible urban space, with an outside courtyard and neighbouring connected art gallery, which is useful if your event might spill over at the edges.
Fully licenced until midnight, with exceptional in-house catering. There is a minimum bar/catering spend which may be offset against the venue hire charge.
Well worth enquiring for details.
- Bond/Deposit Required

Hastings, paired with Napier as the twin cities of the region, has not only a vibrant city, but the very varied surrounding hinterland of Hawke’s Bay. From traditional and modern vineyards to the coast and the hills, Hastings has venues for business and leisure, weddings and parties.
Known for food and wine, Hastings does entertainment well and stages a wide range of events. With it’s settled and glorious weather this is the destination for outdoor events for a larger part of the year.
It only rains for about 2 months – unfortunately no one knows which two months. But for an outdoor event, Hastings is a very good bet.
